In a shocking turn of events, Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated concerts in Austria have been abruptly canceled due to security concerns following the arrests of two men suspected of planning terror attacks targeting her shows in Vienna. The “Eras Tour” concerts were scheduled to occur at Ernst Happel Stadium on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Still, event organizers decided to call off the performances to ensure the safety of all attendees.
Barracuda Music, the event organizer, announced the cancellations on Instagram, stating, “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.” The decision was made after Austrian authorities confirmed the terror plot, prompting a significant police operation in Ternitz, Lower Austria, where one of the suspects was apprehended.
The suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian citizen with North Macedonian roots, was arrested early Wednesday morning. A second man was later arrested in Vienna. During the operation, investigators discovered several chemical substances at the suspect’s home, raising further concerns. The authorities believe that one of the men had been radicalized online and had pledged allegiance to the current leader of ISIS.
As a result of the canceled concerts, all ticket holders will receive automatic refunds within the next 10 business days, as confirmed by Swift’s official website. This unfortunate situation has caused disappointment among fans eagerly awaiting the performances.
Swift is expected to close out the European leg of her “Eras Tour” with upcoming performances in London next week before taking a three-month break. She will then resume her tour in Toronto later this year.
