Nelly Korda has made LPGA history by clinching her fifth consecutive tournament victory, a feat achieved by winning the Chevron Championship in Texas. This victory marks her as only the third player in LPGA history to win five straight events, joining legends Nancy Lopez (1978) and Annika Sorenstam (2005).
Korda, who is only 25, faced stiff competition going into the final round, trailing South Korea’s Ryu Hae-ran by one shot. However, she managed to pull ahead with a three-under-par in challenging gusty conditions, finishing the tournament at 13 under, two shots clear of the nearest competitor.
This win not only adds a second major title to her impressive resume but also places her in the elite company of women’s golf. Korda expressed the intense pressure she felt during the final rounds, stating, “That back nine felt like the longest back nine of my entire life. It was a bit of a grind, but I’m happy to get the win.” She also revealed the nerves and excitement that come with competing at such a high level, especially when clinching a major title.
Swedish player Maja Stark mounted a strong challenge to finish second at 11 under, followed closely by Americans Lauren Coughlin and Canadian Brooke Henderson, who tied for third place at 10 under. Ryu Hae-ran, who led entering the final round, ended up fifth after shooting a 74.
The tournament also saw participation from English players Georgia Hall, Charley Hull, and Lottie Woad, with all three tying for 23rd place. Northern Ireland’s Stephanie Meadow finished slightly behind them.
Korda’s victory at the Chevron Championship not only signifies her dominance on the golf course but also her ability to maintain composure and excel under pressure, underscoring her status as a top contender in women’s golf.
