Apple is reportedly working on new vision-based products, including smart glasses and AirPods equipped with cameras, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. These innovative products are not expected to hit the market until 2027, if at all.
The report suggests that Apple is looking to make use of the multi-billion-dollar research and development investment it made for the Apple Vision Pro by incorporating the technology into other devices. Visual intelligence, which was recently introduced alongside the iPhone 16’s camera control, could soon be featured in a new pair of smart glasses.
These upcoming glasses, however, won’t offer full augmented reality (AR) capabilities with built-in displays. Instead, they will be more akin to Meta’s Ray-Ban collaboration, featuring cameras, speakers, and microphones. Meta’s smart glasses have gained popularity, with prices starting at $299, and Apple’s version is expected to follow a similar model.
Additionally, Apple is reportedly still exploring the idea of AirPods with cameras, a product concept that has surfaced in the past. However, the purpose of adding outward-facing cameras to AirPods remains unclear. Many are skeptical about the practicality of such a feature, but Apple appears to be continuing its experimentation with new ways to integrate visual intelligence into its devices.
