Trump Works at McDonald’s in Pennsylvania, Casts Doubt on Harris’ Job History

1 Mins read

Former President Donald Trump made a surprise visit to a McDonald’s in Feasterville, Pennsylvania, following his arrival at Philadelphia International Airport. Donning a McDonald’s employee apron, he took orders at the drive-thru and helped cook fries, showcasing his well-known fondness for the fast-food chain.

Doubts About Harris’ McDonald’s Experience

Trump’s visit wasn’t just about enjoying a meal; it was part of his effort to cast doubt on Vice President Kamala Harris’ past claims of working at a McDonald’s in the summer of 1983. Harris has mentioned her job as a cashier and fry cook at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, during her college years at Howard University. The Harris campaign frames her work experience as a symbol of her middle-class upbringing.

Trump, however, has accused Harris of lying about this experience, arguing that she fabricated the story. Senior Trump advisor Jason Miller reinforced the former president’s skepticism, suggesting Trump’s visit was intended to show that “at least one candidate” had truly worked at McDonald’s.

Harris’ Response and the Campaign Context

Harris and her campaign have pushed back against Trump’s claims, asserting that Trump’s criticisms stem from his privileged background. Harris’ spokesperson, Ian Sams, emphasized that Trump, born into wealth, cannot relate to the experiences of working-class Americans who have held summer jobs.

Both Trump and Harris are in a tight race, each trying to shape their economic messages. Trump continues to focus on his economic record, while Harris has been gaining traction in key swing states since becoming the Democratic nominee.

McDonald’s Role in the Community

McDonald’s, a significant U.S. employer with over 40,000 global locations, played host to Trump’s visit. The franchise owner in Feasterville, Derek Giacomantonio, expressed pride in the opportunity. He noted that working at McDonald’s is often a meaningful first job for many Americans, including himself.

Trump’s fondness for McDonald’s is well documented, from his campaign days to his White House term. He even hosted a fast-food feast for the Clemson University football team after their championship win in 2019.
